Day trip to the famous Zermatt. We board a mountain train to climb up to car-free Zermatt, a picturesque cluster of rustic chalets beneath the Matterhorn. In Zermatt board the “Gornergrat Bahn” one of Switzerland’s top excursion destinations since 1898. It was the world’s first fully electrified cog railway. Today it is a modern, eco-friendly railway, equipped with a regenerative braking system that generates electricity on the descent and so saves energy. Thus the energy for one to two new mountain drives is won by three downhill drives. The panorama is among the finest in the world. The views take in the Monte Rosa massif with Switzerland’s highest peak (Dufourspitze, 4,634 m); the second-largest glacier in the Alps, the Gorner Glacier; and a total of 29 mountains above 4,000 m,
including, of course, the Matterhorn in all its glory. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Brig.

This morning step aboard the world-famous Glacier Express and take your reserved seat for a spectacular ride through the heart of the Swiss Alps. Picturesque landscapes of ice-capped mountains and stonebuilt villages, with chalet-style houses, will be in sight as you ascend to the highest point of the route, 2,033 metres to the icy Oberalp Pass. Arrival in Chur later afternoon. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Chur.

The most spectacular way to cross the Alps: the
Bernina Express from Chur / St. Moritz - Valposchiavo - Tirano links up regions with different languages and cultures. This is not a rack railway and the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery. On the highest railway across the Alps, the Bernina Express climbs up to the glistening glaciers before descending to the palms of Italy far below. This rail link between Northern and Southern Europe builds bridges between regions with different languages and culture. The railway line from Thusis - Valposchiavo - Tirano has UNESCO World Heritage status. Thanks to the modern panoramic cars, you will enjoy unrestricted views of the unspoilt Alpine panorama. The journey from Tirano to Lake Como is covered by coach. Day for leisure. Optional full day excursion: Visit of the Borromeo Islands (Isola Bella with garden and palace – Isola Pescatori just for a walk and for lunch – Isola Madre with palace and Garden.) The most popular of the lake islands is Isola Bella where you can see the grand baroque style villa and gardens of the 17th century Palazzo Borromeo and a picturesque but very small village with narrow cobbled streets winding between ancient houses. The delights of Lake Como are many and varied and this morning you can enjoy one of its many highlights. Our boat tour takes us to the elegant and exclusive resort of Bellagio which, with its idyllic location on a promontory on the lake, is often described as the most beautiful town in Italy. Spend the afternoon exploring at your own pace before returning to your resort by boat. Overnight at hotel at Lake Como.
