Short orientation walk through the center of Poznan. You will see Poznan Cathedral, the St. Stanislav’s Parish Church and the elegant Old Market Square. Poznan’s most important sight is its old town hall. It is the finest Renaissance building in the world north of Italy. Poznan’s emblem is two goats, and the town hall’s main tower clock has a metal pair of them. At noon, every day, the goats come out and ram their heads 12 times, and this attracts the crowds. After lunch we continue to Zelazowa Wola. This little village is known all over the world, as Frederic Chopin was born here. Visit of Chopin’s Birthplace and drive further to Poland’s capital Warsaw. Dinner and overnight in Warsaw.
Today we experience a miracle of reconstruction and conservation. Our guided sightseeing tour reveals the historical center and the heart of the capital - which was restored after World War II to its former splendour, so carefully, that it is now included on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. Also we see the site of the Warsaw Ghetto, so shockingly evoked in Polanski’s recent movie "The Pianist". Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Warsaw.
After breakfast we drive to Czestochowa to visit the 14th century Paulite Monastery at Jasna Gora. The monastery of Jasna Gora is the third-largest Catholic pilgrimage site in the world, the most valuable treasure is the miraculous painting of Our Lady. According to tradition, the icon was painted by Luke the Evangelist. Next stop is Auschwitz, to visit what is left of the concentration camp. Then on to medieval Krakow. Dinner and overnight in Krakow.
Our morning sightseeing tour begins with a short walk along the streets of the former Jewish district of Kazimierz. Next, Wawel Hill, crowned by Wawel Castle and Wawel Cathedral. A walk up Grodzka street leads you to the heart of Krakow, the Rynek Glowny, or main market square. There, the large Cloth Hall is the perfect place to shop for local souvenirs. The last sightseeing stops are the twin-spired St. Mary’s Church and the Wawel Royal Castle. In the evening, enjoy dinner at our Polish Polka Party. Overnight in Krakow.
After breakfast our scenic drive takes us into the foothills of the Tatra Mountains and we cross into Slovakia. Next, we approach the Hungarian capital Budapest. Dinner and overnight in Budapest.
After breakfast, enjoy a tour of Hungary’s capital, situated on both sides of the magnificent Danube River. In Buda, on the right bank of the Danube, you will view a grand panorama of the entire city. Cross over the Danube bridges and see how the imposing Parliament Building dominates Pest, on the other side of the river. From the Elisabeth Bridge, the tour takes you to Heroes Square, with monuments to all the Hungarian kings. You will pass by Matthias Church, where the Hungarian kings were crowned.
