North Macedonia : Must See
Located in the heart of the Balkans, Macedonia is a little-known region symbolized by the Sun - present on its flag. Nature lovers will appreciate its mountains and lakes such as Lake Ohrid, for instance, on the border with Albania. History and architecture enthusiasts will be charmed by the many monasteries, churches, archaeological sites and typical villages. The capital, Skopje, is composed of a new town with many monumental buildings and an old town with an exceptional historical heritage.
Lake Ohrid
Lake Ohrid is still an insider tip that impresses with its crystal clear water. At over 1 million years old, it is one of the oldest lakes in the world. On the edge of Lake Ohrid on a rocky promontory stands St. John's Church, which you shouldn't miss on your way!
Ohrid
The city of Ohrid is said to be home to 365 churches - one for each day of the year! The best known is probably the Church of Saint Sophia from the 11th century. From this church it goes up to the amphitheater of the city and from here again uphill to the fortress of Tsar Samuil. From there you have an outstanding view of the old town and Lake Ohrid.
Skopje
Macedonia's capital Skopje is full of sights reminiscent of Paris, London and Istanbul. Particularly noteworthy is the memorial house of Mother Teresa, who was born in Skopje. A trip to Matka Canyon is a must, where you can plan a variety of activities in and around the water.
